Microsoft Unveils New Data Tools to Enhance Custom AI Models

Microsoft is introducing a suite of Microsoft data innovations designed to help organizations build custom AI models grounded in their own business knowledge and data. Announced at the European Microsoft Fabric + SQL Community Conference in Barcelona, the new tools aim to turn organizational intelligence into lasting competitive advantage by combining powerful AI models with unique business context, expertise and data that only each company possesses.

Grounding AI in Trusted Business Context

The cornerstone of these Microsoft data innovations is Fabric IQ, which brings governed business context directly into Microsoft Copilot. When users ask Copilot for critical business metrics—like the latest sales forecast—the answer is now grounded in the same Power BI semantic models, metrics and business definitions that power an organization’s existing reports. This eliminates confusion about which number is correct and ensures everyone works from a single source of truth.

Fabric IQ in Microsoft Copilot Chat and Cowork is now generally available, with integration into the new Code experience coming through the Frontier program. For Power BI customers, this capability is on by default, extending their semantic foundation into Copilot while preserving existing access controls and governance. IQ Sharing in Fabric, now in preview, lets organizations securely share data and business context across teams, partners and ecosystems without losing control over underlying assets.

Building and Operating at Scale

As organizations expand their data platforms, Microsoft data innovations now include enhanced observability in Fabric to help teams move from reactive troubleshooting to proactive operations. Cross-workspace monitoring, an enhanced Monitor Hub, Operations Agents and Activator provide unified visibility across jobs, capacities, workspaces and workloads, helping maintain oversight as data and AI workloads scale.

Fabric Apps brings application development directly to governed data, enabling developers to build and deploy AI-powered business applications faster on a unified foundation. New agentic data engineering features automate complex data preparation and refinement while keeping engineers in control—they define outcomes and boundaries, and the agent plans and executes work within those limits. This follows the broader trend where How to Automate Dependabot Pull Requests Using GitHub Copilot demonstrated how automation can streamline development workflows. In a related development, Google AI Mode adds flight price tracking and hotel booking tools showed how AI tools are expanding into new domains like travel and booking, reflecting the same shift toward AI-assisted decision-making across business functions.
