Samsung posts record quarter as memory chip boom lifts profit past $70 billion
Samsung just reported its biggest quarter ever. The Samsung record quarter puts the company at KRW 107.4 trillion in operating profit, which makes it the world’s first tech company to pass KRW 100 trillion in a single quarter. Revenue rose 14% from the previous quarter, driven by the memory chip business.
Why the Samsung record quarter happened
The Device Solutions division, which makes memory chips, carried the result. It posted KRW 147.1 trillion in consolidated revenue and KRW 106.5 trillion in operating profit, another record for the division. Samsung credits a surge in HBM4 sales and strong demand for server SSDs.

The company expects memory demand to keep growing as new CPU and GPU platforms launch. It says AI-driven demand “will far exceed the industry supply in comparison with 2026.” That fits the wider push for AI hardware, as Nvidia Details Groq 3 LPX Architecture and First Third-Party Benchmarks showed. Samsung is also spending to keep up. Quarterly capital expenditure rose to KRW 29 trillion, up KRW 12.2 trillion from Q3. Most of it, KRW 27.2 trillion, went to the chip division.
Phones, foundry and displays
The phone side is still in the red. The mobile and networks businesses reported KRW 37.7 trillion in revenue and an operating loss of KRW 0.6 trillion, compared with a loss of KRW 0.7 trillion in Q2. For the holiday season, Samsung will push the Galaxy Z Fold8, the Z Fold8 Ultra and the Galaxy S26 series. Pricing on that lineup was covered in Samsung Galaxy S26 FE vs S25 FE: Explaining the $50 Price Increase. In 2027 the company plans to focus on flagship phones.
The foundry business, Samsung LSI, grew as flagship chipsets and 200MP image sensors sold better. It expects double-digit revenue growth next quarter on more orders for 2nm chips and 4nm NPUs. For U.S. readers, the fab in Taylor, Texas is expected to begin operation next year. Samsung Display reported KRW 8.0 trillion in revenue and KRW 1.1 trillion in operating profit, though it warns that earnings will see only limited growth.
Shareholders are getting a payout too. Samsung will pay cash dividends of KRW 4,601 per common share, with the same amount per preferred share, totaling KRW 30 trillion. Its 2026 goal is to return KRW 90-110 trillion to shareholders, including a “substantial” share repurchase program.
