TikTok is rolling out a suite of new comment section features designed to boost engagement and interaction. The platform announced on Thursday that it’s introducing TikTok voice comments, polls, photo carousel comments, and Live Photo comments to its comment sections globally. These additions transform comments from simple feedback into a richer, more interactive space where users can linger and engage with each other.
How TikTok voice comments work
TikTok voice comments let users tap a microphone icon in the comment box and record audio messages up to a minute long. Once posted, anyone can tap to listen to the voice comment directly beneath a video. The company emphasizes that sound and music have been central to TikTok since its inception, turning songs into trends and audio clips into shareable jokes. Now that same energy extends to the comment section itself.
A TikTok spokesperson confirmed to TechCrunch that voice comments are subject to the same Community Guidelines as other platform content. The company uses a combination of human and automated detection tools, including speech-to-text transcription, to identify and remove policy-violating content. Voice comments are rolling out globally over the next month to users 18 and older.
Polls, photos, and Live Photos in comments
Creators can now add polls when commenting on their own videos—a feature previously available to some, but now rolling out globally. These comment polls let creators vote on next video ideas, pick outfits, decide what to cook, and more. Creators can set up to five options and choose a time frame for voting, then track results directly in the comment section as votes come in.
Photo carousel comments allow users to add up to nine photos in a single comment, up from one at a time previously. Live Photo comments are also now available, letting users upload brief bursts of motion that give others a quick preview before viewing the full image. Live Photo comments are available globally now, while photo carousel comments are rolling out globally over the next month.
