Apple’s HomePod mini 2 adds Siri AI, new colors, better sound
Apple has officially unveiled the HomePod mini 2, bringing Siri AI, a new light-up visual feature, and multi-speaker pairing to its compact smart speaker. The announcement arrived alongside updates to Apple HomeView, Apple TV 4K, and the Apple Home Collection, signaling a broader refresh of Apple’s smart home lineup.
What’s new with Siri AI on the HomePod mini 2
The HomePod mini 2 runs on Apple’s new S10 chip, which powers the speaker’s upgraded Siri AI capabilities. Apple says these features require the HomePod mini 2 to be paired with an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad. Once active, Siri AI will be able to recognize up to six different users by voice and deliver personalized messages to each person. That said, Apple confirmed these smarter Siri features won’t be ready at launch — they’ll roll out later through a software update.

Sound Glow, speaker pairing, and availability
The speaker also introduces Sound Glow, a feature that turns the top of the HomePod mini into a glowing, animated display synced to the album art of whatever song is playing. On the audio side, users can now link up to four HomePod mini units together for a four-speaker surround sound setup, which pairs with the new Apple TV 4K. The speaker still doubles as a smart home hub for controlling connected devices.
The HomePod mini 2 is up for pre-order now through the Apple Store in the US and 23 other regions, with five color choices: blue, green, pink, midnight, and white. Sales begin October 30. The launch comes amid a broader industry trend toward pricier hardware — The Era of Cheap Smartphones Is Over as Price Hikes Become Permanent has tracked how cost increases are becoming the norm across tech categories, a shift also visible in smartphones, where Samsung Galaxy S26 FE vs S25 FE: Explaining the $50 Price Increase broke down a recent price jump in detail.
