Apple launches HomeView, a smart display built around Siri
Apple has officially unveiled HomeView, its long-rumored smart display built around Siri AI, giving the company a direct answer to Amazon’s Echo Show. The Apple HomeView display works as a hub for connected devices and a personalized control center for audio, calls, and apps, and it adjusts its content based on which family member is standing in front of it by pulling data from their iPhone or iPad.
What does the Apple HomeView display look like?
The centerpiece is a 7-inch square Liquid Retina display, which comes in Silver, Starlight, Rose Pink and Space Gray. The tabletop version sits on a base housing a down-firing woofer and two force-canceling passive radiators that work alongside the two full-range drivers in the display itself, with a stainless steel hinge letting you tilt the screen to the angle you want. There’s also a wall-mounted option without the base, offering the same functionality. Notably, there are no physical buttons anywhere on the device — you control it entirely through the touchscreen or your voice.

Brightness ranges from 500 nits at the top end down to just 0.3 nits, which Apple says is the lowest brightness it has ever offered on any device, making it suitable for a nightstand. The passive screens, called Faces, can be customized with art, photos, or clock designs, while the unlocked Home screen offers four widget areas similar to Apple Watch customization. A 12-megapixel FaceTime camera with Center Stage sits at the top for video calls, and the Apple HomeView display can also show recently used apps and handle Handoff from an iPhone, much like HomePod speakers already do.
How does Siri AI and the A18 chip handle security?
An A18 chip powers Siri AI on the device and provides the data security needed for a gadget handling so much personal information. Facial and voice recognition let HomeView tell users apart and show each person their own interface; walk away, and anyone else sees only a lock screen. The device also requires periodically unlocking your connected iPhone or iPad, with a special overnight setting so you aren’t prompted first thing in the morning. Apple also built a new recipe mode into Safari for HomeView, and Siri AI can set timers or help track ingredients while you cook — a software-and-hardware pairing not unlike the thoughtful touches covered in Motorola Previews Android 15 Update and New Themed Icons.
HomeView ties into the new Apple Home Collection, developed with LG and Schneider Electric, covering cameras, a video doorbell, a door lock, and thermostats priced from $199 to $349; release timing hasn’t been announced. Both HomeView versions are available for pre-order now, with general availability on November 13.
