Microsoft Refreshes Surface Pro and Laptop with Snapdragon X2 Plus and 5G
Microsoft is refreshing its smaller Surface Pro and Surface Laptop lines with Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon X2 Plus processor, arriving October 13 starting at $1,149. The move brings the compact models in line with larger variants that received their chip upgrades in June, and adds optional 5G connectivity to the lineup.
Surface Pro 12-inch Gets Snapdragon X2 Plus and Display Boost
The Surface Pro 12-inch now pairs the Snapdragon X2 Plus with a 25% brighter display and a battery that’s 30% more efficient than before. Microsoft is also introducing an optional 5G model, which the company describes as “one of the most requested additions.” All variants ship with either 16GB or 24GB of RAM—the 8GB option from last year’s model has been discontinued—and storage maxes out at 512GB.
Surface Laptop 13-inch Follows Similar Path with Snapdragon X2 Plus
The Surface Laptop 13-inch receives largely the same treatment: the Snapdragon X2 Plus chip, a brighter display, and the removal of the 8GB RAM tier. Pricing starts at $1,199, a $50 increase from the previous generation. Beyond the chipset upgrade and display improvements, this year’s model remains nearly identical to its predecessor. As covered earlier, Samsung Galaxy S26 FE vs S25 FE: Explaining the $50 Price Increase showed how manufacturers are adjusting pricing across product tiers, a pattern that continues here.
Both devices now come with a new “Microsoft Ink Canvas” app. Microsoft is also launching a new Surface Mouse featuring haptic feedback and a customizable Copilot button, priced at $79.99 and available the same day. In a related development, Motorola Previews Android 15 Update and New Themed Icons highlighted how device makers are expanding software features alongside hardware refreshes, mirroring the approach Microsoft is taking with its updated accessories and bundled apps.
