Discovery Plus Subscription Prices Are Going Up

Discovery Plus is raising its price, with the cheapest plan now costing $6.99 a month. The Discovery Plus price increase lands just one week after Paramount closed its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, which owned both Discovery Plus and HBO Max.

Why is this Discovery Plus price increase happening now?

The timing isn’t a coincidence. The combined companies, now operating under the name Skydance, plan to merge Paramount Plus and HBO Max into “a single service over time.” It’s still unclear whether Discovery Plus will survive as its own standalone streamer once that merger plays out, which makes this latest price hike feel like one more step in a bigger shakeup. Discovery Plus last raised its prices back in January 2025, so this marks a return to a familiar pattern for the service.

Discovery Plus carries shows from networks like TLC, The Discovery Channel, HGTV, Food Network, and Investigation Discovery. A lot of overlap already exists with HBO Max, too — titles such as 90 Day Fiancé, Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, and Deadliest Catch are available on both platforms, which may explain why a standalone Discovery Plus app could eventually become redundant.

Part of a bigger streaming trend

This Discovery Plus price increase is far from an isolated case. Streaming services across the board have been raising prices throughout the year — Disney Plus is reportedly getting a hike to $21.49 per month, Apple TV now costs $14.99 a month after its fourth increase in four years, and ESPN’s streaming plans have also gotten pricier. For context on how these hikes compare across the industry, Samsung Galaxy S26 FE vs S25 FE: Explaining the $50 Price Increase broke down a similar jump elsewhere in consumer tech pricing.

For now, Discovery Plus subscribers will simply see a higher bill, with no confirmation yet on whether the service will be folded into the larger Paramount-HBO Max combination or continue on its own. In a related development, Motorola Previews Android 15 Update and New Themed Icons covered another company’s recent update rollout, a reminder that streaming and device makers alike are moving fast on changes this year.
