Samsung Galaxy S26 FE vs S25 FE: Explaining the $50 Price Increase
The Samsung Galaxy S26 FE price has climbed $50 compared to its predecessor, the Galaxy S25 FE. While a modest bump in processor power and charging efficiency account for some of the increase, the real culprit appears to be the ongoing RAM supply crisis affecting tech pricing across the board. Yet when you line up the two phones side by side, the differences are surprisingly thin—raising the question of whether that extra $50 is actually worth it.
Where the Galaxy S26 FE price hike comes from
The Samsung Galaxy S26 FE runs on a slightly faster Exynos 2500 processor built on a 3nm process, compared to the Exynos 2400 (4nm) in the S25 FE. Benchmarks suggest you’ll see better gaming performance and marginally improved battery efficiency, though real-world testing will tell the full story. The new phone also ships with Android 17 and One UI 9 out of the box, while the S25 FE arrives with Android 16 and One UI 8—though the older model can be updated.
Charging speed shows a small but tangible gain: a 30-minute charge reaches 69 percent battery on the Galaxy S26 FE versus 65 percent on the S25 FE. Both phones pack identical 4,900mAh batteries and support 45W wired charging. The Galaxy S26 FE price reflects these incremental improvements, yet the RAM supply crisis is likely the dominant factor. Both US storage variants (128GB and 256GB) max out at 8GB of RAM on each model, so the $50 increase isn’t driven by memory upgrades.
Camera and AI features: the real story
Disappointingly, the camera hardware remains unchanged. Both phones sport a 12MP ultrawide, 50MP main camera, 8MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom, and 12MP front camera. Where the Galaxy S26 FE pulls ahead is in software. New features like My FanCam—which lets you select a subject in video and reframe to follow them automatically—come natively to the S26 FE. Horizontal Lock, another S26 series exclusive, keeps video in a consistent orientation even if you rotate the device. These features require advanced neural processing unavailable on the S25 FE.
Other AI tools like Circle to Search, Now Nudge, and New Brief arrive via OS updates and should eventually reach the older phone. This follows the pattern The Era of Cheap Smartphones Is Over as Price Hikes Become Permanent described about how price hikes have become standard across the smartphone market. The Galaxy S26 FE does gain one extra year of software support, but that alone doesn’t justify the jump in cost for most buyers.
The bottom line: the Galaxy S26 FE is an iterative update to an already iterative phone. If you’re shopping now, saving that $50 on a Galaxy S25 FE makes sense. Alternatively, spending an extra $100 for the base Samsung Galaxy S26—priced at $799.99 at the time of writing—nets you 256GB storage, a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, and 12GB of RAM, as covered in Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold Review: A Solid Effort Facing Tough Competition. That might deliver better value than splitting the difference.
